FilmColumbia  will celebrate  its 22nd year with the best-curated selection of world class films from major studios and independents, and a stunning array of international films, animated features, documentaries and children’s shorts.


12:00pm Red Soil

Drama - 88 min

A young ER nurse, Nour, changes jobs because she cares too much, and eventually finds herself working for the same company as her father, an Algerian in France. The company, she discovers, is a polluter and Nour wants to do something about it. Her father, used to accommodation, does not want to rock the boat.

2.30 pm Lingui: The Sacred Bonds

Drama - 87 min

In Chad, abortions are illegal but female circumcision is not. Mahamet Saleh Haroun (A Screaming Man), one of West Africa’s most accomplished filmmakers, captures the moment a working single mother makes a spirited decision about her daughter with the help of other women.

Radu Jude won the Golden Bear this year in Berlin for this absurdist cynical comedy ofa schoolteacher’s sexual escapade (shown in its explicit entirety) going viral(accidentally), and the brouhaha it creates for a Covid-masked Bucharest PTA. It is anything but conventional.

8.00 pm Paris, 13th District

Drama - 105 min

One of France’s greatest filmmakers, Jacques Audiard (A Prophet, Rust and Bone), with screenwriting help from Cecile Sciamma (Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Petite Maman), successfully transfers two stories from Adrian Tomine’s collection of graphic short stories from urban American to the Olympiades neighborhood in Paris where high rises abound with tenants who, often quirkily, fight off loneliness.
